When the royals came from Hanover , subtitled Hanover's ruler on England's throne 1714 - 1837 , in 2014 the theme of the Lower Saxony state exhibition for the 300th anniversary of the personal union between Great Britain and Hanover was . Under the patronage of Prince Charles , from May 17 to October 5, 2014, exhibitions were shown in five museums and castles in Hanover and Celle with different focuses on the 123-year-long personal union.
Exhibitions
The central exhibitions took place in the State Museum Hanover and in the Museum Schloss Herrenhausen . In addition, in- depth thematic exhibitions and special individual aspects were shown in the Wilhelm Busch - German Museum for Caricature and the Art of Drawing , in the Historical Museum in Hanover and in the Residence Museum in Celle Castle .
Of the approximately 1,000 exhibits , “30 came from the possession of Queen Elizabeth II ; [...] the largest loan from the British royal family that was ever given outside the country, “including the state crown of George I. Other loans from 145 museums and collections such as the British Library , the Victoria & Albert Museum or the Metropolitan Museum of Art "Convey a complex picture of the historically and culturally significant Georgian era". Paintings such as the Westminster Bridge by Canaletto from the Yale Center for British Art and the silver service by George III were shown. from the property of the Rothschild Foundation or the silver furniture of Georg II on loan from Ernst August von Hannover .
In addition to the four exhibition catalogs with a total of more than 1000 pages, the accompanying brochure was “an introduction for readers from 12 years of age”, which is intended to introduce young people to the history and the effects on German and British culture in school lessons .
For the Lower Saxony state exhibition and the 300th anniversary of the personal union, an extensive supporting program was organized throughout Lower Saxony in 2014 , which brought the Georgian era to life, for example with a specially composed opera , the Göttingen Handel Festival , the garden festival or fashion shows. The Kestner Society presents the group show pool contemporary art from London . The British capital also paid tribute to the personal union with large exhibitions and events.
