When a star fell from the sky is a Czech-German-Slovak television film by director Karel Janák from 2020 . The fairy tale film premiered on Czech television on Christmas Eve 2020.

plot

At the start of the holiday season, the engagement of the Star of the Day and the brightest star in the sky, Sirius, is announced. Tagesstern is looking forward to the wedding, but Sirius is more concerned with himself and his appearance than thinking about his fiancée.

Christmas preparations begin on earth. In the village the children practice Christmas carols with their teacher Vašek. The castle is decorated for Christmas. The Queen wants her daughter Amelia to prepare for a ball at which the princess will choose a prince who will marry her. But Amelia has other things in mind and would rather go ice skating. Amelia is watched by Vašek while ice skating. He fell in love with the princess.

In heaven, Proxima is jealous of the day star. She wants to marry Sirius herself. Therefore it pushes the day star down to earth. She hopes that the day star will burn out on earth. Stars automatically extinguish after a few days on earth and crumble into dust.

Day star falls in the teacher's woodshed. This takes care of the day star.

The day before Christmas Eve, the teacher brings the day star to school. He tells the children about the Star of Bethlehem and in the course of it also about stars in general. But Tagesstern tells the children that the teacher tells them something wrong about the stars. She tells the children a lot about the personalities of the different stars, while the teacher tries to teach them the scientific knowledge about the stars.

A little later Vašek brings the animals in the forest some food and, in love, watches the princess who goes ice skating on the lake in the forest. Due to Vašek's love for the princess, the day star begins to shine again. She decides to bring Amelia and Vašek together. She makes sure that the princess falls into a hole in the ice so that Vašek can save her. After that, Amelia stays in Vašek's wooden house for the night. She also visits the villagers during the traditional Christmas tree lighting, where the children sing Christmas carols composed by Vašek himself. Amelia falls in love with Vašek. She invites him and the schoolchildren to light the Christmas tree in the castle. There the children sing their Christmas carol in front of Amelia and the Queen. In the evening the children spend the night with their teacher in the castle. Amelia asks Vašek to come to the ball and hold her hand there.

In the sky, Sirius is not at all interested in the sudden disappearance of the day star. Only a nameless star, simply called Nameless, cares a lot about day star. He tries again and again to convince Sirius to look for the star. Meanwhile, Proxima learns that Day Star can survive longer on earth if it finds people who truly love someone. She decides to go to earth and see to it that the day star crumbles to ashes herself. The white dwarf who has fallen in love with Proxima comes to her aid.

Proxima actually comes to earth and manages to take away all emotions from Vašek with a spell, including his love for Princess Amelia. At the prince's ball, Vašek rejects any advances made by the princess. Day star's luminosity disappears. But, nameless, Tagesstern comes to the rescue. With his love for the day star, he gives it back its luminosity. Through love, the two can break the magic that lies on Vašek. Vašek confesses his love to Amelia. When Sirius finally appears, Daystar realizes that she doesn't really love him. She rejects his marriage proposal and instead opts for nameless. Sirius punishes Proxima for her behavior by sending her into the black hole that she will have to clean in the future.

At the Christmas party, the queen finally gives her approval for the wedding of Amelia and Vašek. Nameless and the day star return to heaven together. The children sing a newly composed Christmas carol about the wonder of love at Christmas.
