Starý Harcov (German Alt Harzdorf ) is a district of Liberec in the Czech Republic . It lies east of Liberec in a valley between the foothills of the Jizera Mountains and the Proschwitzer ridge ( Prosečský hřeben ).

geography

Together with the localities of Siebenhäuser, Hofeberg and Aloisienhöhe, the village extends to Lukášov ( Luxdorf ) and Hraničná ( Gränzendorf ) in the east. In the north Starý Harcov extends to Bedřichov and Rudolfov, in the west to Ruprechtice and Liberec and in the south it borders on Rochlice, Vratislavice nad Nisou and Kunratice.

Starý Harcov is irrigated by several mountain streams that arise in the Jizera Mountains and merge in the center of the village. The most important has its beginning at Weberberg, flows as Lukášovský potok ( Luxdorfer Flössl ) through Nový Harcov, is strengthened by the brook from the Stone Table and then joins in the center of the village with the flössel Křemenný potok coming from the "Drei Zippeln" to Harcovský potok ( Harzdorfer Bach ), which flows into the Harcov dam and from there into the Lusatian Neisse .

From the north to the east, Starý Harcov is surrounded in a wide arc by wooded mountain slopes, the Žulový vrch ( High Mountain ) in the north with the blacksmith's stone, Rollberg with the measuring and ringing stones, the Maliník ( raspberry mountain ), Brandberg, Bärstein, Klášterní vrch ( Klosterberg ), Jezevčí vrch ( Leimberg ) and Kotel ( Kesselstein ). To the north is the Výšina ( Heinrichshöhe , 547 m) with the Liberecká výšina ( Liebiegwarte ) observation tower .

There are wooded areas between the individual districts. A branching network of paths with resting places and benches has been created for hikers. There are also restaurants that used to have names like “Luderhäusl”, “Zum Halben Wagen”, “Buttleischänke” and “Pudelmütze”.

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1540. The first settlers came to an inhospitable area that was partly covered with jungle. The landlord Rulko von Biberstein had locators recruit settlers, who were then given land for a fee. The first settlers were probably charcoal burners, Harzkratzer and farmers.

The first locator, who is also considered the founder of Harzdorf, was called "Hartmann" and the village of Hartmannsdorf. The name was later changed to Hartelsdorf, Hartzdorf and finally Harzdorf. In addition to the carpenters, stocking makers were initially located in Alt Harzdorf. Hosiery knitting flourished at the end of the 18th century, which was then ended by a stock market crash in Vienna. In 1869 Alt Harzdorf had 2201 inhabitants, in 1900 there were 2673.

Industry was also located in the village, because there was sufficient water power. After heavy rains and downpours, devastating floods broke into the valley several times, which finally made the construction of the Harzdorf dam on the city limits of Reichenberg necessary between 1902 and 1904.

After the Munich Agreement , the municipality became part of the German Empire and initially belonged to the Reichenberg district . On May 1, 1939, Alt Harzdorf was incorporated into Reichenberg . In 1950 there were 2381 people in Starý Harcov. In 1980 the population had grown to 3730 and in 1991 it reached its peak of 7727. Starý Harcov has been part of Liberec XV since 1976. In 2001 the place consisted of 639 houses in which 7196 people lived.

Local division

The Liberec XV-Starý Harcov district consists of the six basic settlement units Aloisina výšina ( Aloisienhöhe ), Harcov I, Harcov II, Kunratická, Starý Harcov and Wolkerova. Starý Harcov forms a cadastral district.
