Altburg is a district of Calw in Baden-Württemberg .
geography
Located in the west of the urban area, Altburg extends at an altitude of 540 to 650 m above sea level. NN on the Enz-Nagold-Platte , a plateau between two rivers in the northern Black Forest . The north-south running Nagoldtal , in which the core city is located, forms the eastern edge of the plateau. From the heights, the view goes to the west of the Black Forest ridge, which stands out behind the Enz valley, and to the east, where beyond the Nagold valley, the Heckengau and Schlehengäu can be seen. With good visibility you can see the Swabian Alb in the southeast .
Altburg currently has around 2800 inhabitants with the hamlets of Oberriedt, Speßhardt, Spindlershof and Weltenschwann. Before the community reform in 1975, Altburg was an independent community. As part of the Baden-Württemberg community reform , Altburg was incorporated into the neighboring district town of Calw-Hirsau on January 1, 1975, whose name was changed to Calw on January 1, 1976.
Culture
history
Altburg was mentioned in writing for the first time in 830 in the records of the Hirsau monastery , at that time under the name Albura (old farmers' settlement). According to a legend, there used to be a secret passage between Hirsau Monastery and Altburg Castle, through which the monks of the monastery sometimes fled to gain a little freedom. Probably the most famous son of the place is Johann Gottlieb Friedrich von Bohnenberger , who makes a name for himself as a surveyor and inventor. Bohnenberger invented a forerunner of the gyroscope and made a major contribution to the measurement of Württemberg . In his honor, a tour was laid out in Altburg, which reflects his history and that of the town of Altburg.
Churches
The Martinskirche of the Protestant parish Altburg & Oberreichenbach in the church district of Calw-Nagold with its medieval ceiling paintings is one of the remarkable buildings in Altburg. The oldest part of the church, built as a fortified church, is the tower from the 12th century. In 1534 the parish Altburg became Protestant through the Reformation in Württemberg. After that, probably still at the end of the 16th century, the church was equipped with numerous seats without any expansion by installing a three-sided circumferential gallery in the nave and a north and east gallery in the choir, including floor-level choir seating, all of which are oriented towards the pulpit south inside the choir arch were; the altar was free. This facility, which was valid until 1954, complied with the requirements of the Württemberg church and church service regulations from the Reformation, according to which the preaching of the word should be at the center of the service - an example of the establishment of a transverse church in the existing building stock. During the interior renovation in 1954, late Gothic wall paintings were uncovered on the south wall, the choir galleries and the south pore were removed and a new pulpit facing the nave and a glass painting by Adolf Valentin Saile with the motif of the mercy seat were installed in the apex window . A choir organ was also set up.
Through the joint Protestant pastoral office, Altburg is still connected to the Protestant residents of Oberreichenbach .
In 1954, the Alzenberg suburb of the parish was allocated to the mountain church in Calw-Wimberg , newly built by the architect Hermann Hornbacher . The three-part choir window from 1954 is a design by Rudolf Yelin the Elder. J. and shows next to Christ, the ruler of the world, scenes from the New Testament "What happened on mountains" (Sermon on the Mount, Gethsemane, Emmaus disciples).
Today's Catholic residents of Altburg belong to the pastoral care unit Calw-Bad Liebenzell.
competition
In 1975 and 1982 Altburg took part in the state competition " Our village should be more beautiful " and won the bronze medal in each case. In the competitions "Beautiful communities in the spa and bathing district of Calw" in 1983, 1990 and 1997, which were organized by the district of Calw, the village took first place.
societies
Altburg has a football club. 1. FC Altburg was founded in 1920 and has around 400 members. The 1st team of the active players plays in the district league and the 2nd team in the district league B. There is also a music club, gymnastics club, table tennis club, cultural club, fruit and horticultural club, the Northern Black Forest dog friends and a volunteer fire brigade .
