The Alte Kinsach is an oxbow lake from the Kinsach that was created by river regulation measures. It flows into the Danube at river kilometer 2313.4 .
The watercourse from Stockmühle in the municipality of Parkstetten to the confluence with the Danube at the Alte Kinsach pumping station used to be the lower reaches of the Kinsach. During the construction of the Kinsach-Menach downcomer , this lower course was separated from the upper course and became the backwater. The Alte Kinsach has a length of 3.8 kilometers and a catchment area of 10.9 km 2 . The major part (6.61 km 2 ) of the catchment area is contributed by the right tributary coming from the Aschau with the river code 157922, which flows into the Alte Kinsach near Lenach . At the Mahlbusen of the pumping station, the Dunkgraben still flows into the old Kinsach . The outflow into the Danube up to Mittelwasser takes place in the gravity, in the event of high water the pumping station goes into operation.
The stretch of water from Lenach to the Danube was historically not attributed to the Kinsach, but called the Old Danube , as it was a former loop of the Danube.
Under the water code number 15852 there is a 120 meter long stretch of water between the old mouth of the Lohgraben in the Kinsach and the current mouth of the Lohgraben in the Kinsach-Menach-Ableiter .
