The mountain Alte Warth is 435.5  m above sea level. NHN high, partially wooded mountain in the eastern Gumpelstadt corridor of the municipality of Moorgrund in the Wartburg district and belongs to the Thuringian Forest . Due to the shallow notch depth , the Alte Warth must be viewed as an extension of the Great Toad Head ( 457  m above sea level ).

The Alte Warth mountain is of great importance for tourism in the Wartburg district. Since the 1960s, the Alte Warth has also become known for the motorsport area located there; in the GDR era, the motor-cross events were a crowd puller. After the fall of the Wall, the interests of recreational sports were given up in favor of nature. The numerous rare plants and animal species resulted in the inclusion in the FFH area 169 (Schweinaer Grund, Zechstein belt around Bad Liebenstein). A research station with an attached information center of the Thuringian Forest Nature Park was built on site. The mountain can also be used as a starting point for exploring the charming landscape on the southern edge of the Thuringian Forest near Schweina .

A group of Bronze Age barrows is located on the edge of the forest and marks the beginning of settlement in the area. According to tradition, the mountain was used as a watchpoint in the Middle Ages, it allowed a wide view over the moorland to Frankenstein Castle. The mining also left clear traces, on Kisselstraße you can see extensive Pingen fields that are related to the Schweina copper mining.
