history

Altenhagen Castle, 1876

From the end of the 13th century to the 17th century, the village was owned by the von Dotenberg family, who had received it as a fief from the Pomeranian dukes . She chose Altenhagen as the headquarters on the protective castle named after her. Around 1600 the estate was divided between the two brothers Sievert and Baltzer. With the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 Altenhagen came under Swedish rule. The estate was taken over by the Swedish aristocratic Boltenstern family . They had a manor house built in the baroque style. A two-story , originally nine-axis plastered building with a gable roof and a two-story transverse building also with a gable roof were built.

In 1815 the municipality and Western Pomerania became part of the Prussian province of Pomerania . The estate was taken over by the von Solms-Rödelheim family and passed into the von Thun family through marriage . Ulrich von Thun had the manor house rebuilt in the neo-renaissance style in 1863 . The previously baroque landscape park was redesigned and expanded into an English landscape park. The last owner of the manor house was Kuno Graf zu Solms-Rödelheim. In 1939 it owned around 706 hectares , including 429 hectares of arable land, 45 hectares of meadow, 42 hectares of pasture and 165 hectares of forest. He managed his estate with 40 horses, 125 cattle, 720 sheep and 120 pigs.

After the end of the Second World War , the owners were expropriated. Initially, refugees were quartered in the manor house. In 1963 all facade elements on the building were removed. In the time of the GDR a culture house was built in the place. With the establishment of an LPG , the historic forge from the 19th century was shut down.

After the fall of the Wall , the building stood empty for several years, but was then acquired and renovated by an entrepreneur. It has been for sale since 2018.
