The old mountain is 493.9  m above sea level. NHN meters the highest point of the Hainich and is located in the Wartburg district in West Thuringia ( Germany ).

location

The Alte Berg is located in the southern part of Hainich in the northeastern part of the Wartburg district, near the boundary to the Unstrut-Hainich district , between the villages of Craula in the east and Hütscheroda in the south and Berka in front of the Hainich in the west. Eisenach is about 10 kilometers to the southwest and Bad Langensalza is 13 kilometers to the east.

nature

The completely forested mountain (mainly mixed beech forests) is the highest point of the Hainich, but the flat mountain top is not a scenic mountain. Along the Hainichkamm, the Große Laite (489.0 m) connects to the northwest and an unnamed mountain (478.8 m) and the Renn (473.2 m) to the southeast . The Rennstieg hiking trail and the Via Porta pilgrimage route run over the summit of the Old Mountain .

The mountain is located in the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park and is part of the following protected areas:

To the west, the Alte Berg borders the Hainich National Park .
