history
Scheidenbach was created around 1700 by Wolf Heinrich von Klüx as an extension of the Wendisch-Sohland manor on the border with the Bohemian exclave Schirgiswalde. The landlord, notorious for his harshness, tried to win new subjects by awarding building sites after 50 of his serfs had escaped from him in the Meißnische area .
The Neue Mühle was built on the right bank of the Spree below Scheidenbach. From 1750 Scheidenbach belonged to the combined manors Wendisch- and Niedersohland. Since the beginning of the 19th century, the place was called Altscheidenbach to distinguish it from Neuscheidenbach.
From the middle of the 19th century, Altscheidenbach and Neuscheidenbach formed the Scheidenbach district of the Wendisch-Sohland community; the settlement in Mittelohland was parish. In 1875 and 1877 the Sohland – Wilthen railway line was built, which crosses the Scheidenbach valley on a 40 m long bridge; The Sohland train station was built south of Altscheidenbach. Since the merger of Wendisch-Sohland with Mittelohland, Obersohland and Niedersohland to form the municipality of Sohland an der Spree in 1877, Scheidenbach was a district of the same. In 1885 August Reitz had the first mechanical weaving and dyeing mill built on the site of the burned down Neue Mühle. During the GDR era, the former Reitz factory belonged to VEB VEGRO Kirschau and produced abrasive cloths and blankets.
On January 1, 2011, Scheidenbach was removed from the official municipality of Sohland an der Spree.
