Aluízio Napoleão de Freitas Rego (born November 20, 1914 in Belém (Pará) , † September 14, 2006 in Brasília ) was a Brazilian diplomat and writer.

Life

Aluísio Napoleão de Freitas Rego was the son of Matilde de Freitas and Hugo Napoleão do Rego. In 1942 he married Regina Margarida Pessegueiro Quinto Alves. Their son, Hugo Napoleão do Rego Neto, was born on October 31, 1943 in Portland (Oregon) , where Aluísio Napoleão de Freitas Rego was Vice Consul for Oregon and Washington.

From 1924 to 1931 Rego attended the Lycée Français do Rio de Janeiro and was awarded a bronze medal by the Paris City Council for his rhetorical skills. From 1932 to 1959 he wrote articles, short stories, essays and literary criticism for the newspapers in Rio de Janeiro. In 1936 he received recognition as a Bachelor of Laws from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro .

After Rego was part of the delegation for the inauguration of the monument to Alberto Santos Dumont in Saint-Cloud in 1952, he was entrusted by the aerospace authority with the celebrations for the Alberto Santos Dumont year in 1956. On this occasion he published a second edition of his book Santos Dumont ea conquista do ar . (Santos Dumont and the Conquest of the Air). In 1957 he was elected to the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro .

From October 5, 1961 to January 20, 1969 Rego was then appointed ambassador to Tehran and from February 14, 1969 to August 15, 1974 in Stockholm , where he represented the Brazilian government at the funeral of Frederik IX. After the governments of Brazil and the People's Republic of China had established diplomatic relations on August 15, 1974 , Rego was accredited as the first Brazilian ambassador to the People's Republic of China on April 12, 1975 and remained in office in Beijing until 1981 .
