The Alvis 12/40 was a passenger car that Alvis manufactured from 1922 to 1924 as the successor to the 11/40 model .
The car had a four-cylinder in - line engine with valves on the side . Equipped with a single Solex carburetor, the engine with 1598 cc had an output of 30 bhp (22 kW) at 3800 rpm.
The 12/40 was available as a four-seat touring car or two-seat sports tourer (roadster). The front and rear rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical leaf springs. The top speed was 96 km / h.
The successor to the 12/40 was the Alvis 12/50 SC in 1924 ; The latter took over the vehicle dimensions and the 1.6-liter engine of the 12/40, at least for the street models, but now with the overhead valves like those already featured in the previous models 12/50 SA and SB.
