The Alvis 4.3 liter was a car that Alvis built from 1936 to 1940 as the successor to the 3½ liter .
The 4.3 liter SA introduced in 1936 had a six-cylinder in - line engine with overhead valves with a displacement of 4387 cm³ (bore × stroke = 92 mm × 110 mm), which - ventilated by three SU carburettors - had an output of 137 bhp (101 kW) at 3600 rpm. submitted. Chassis were available with a wheelbase of 3150 mm or 3226 mm. As with the predecessor, the track width was 1422 mm. The chassis also corresponded to its predecessor: a driven rigid axle was installed at the rear, which was suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The front of the car had independent suspension on a transverse leaf spring.
The top speed was 161 km / h. This corresponds to 100.5 mph. So it was a real "hundred mile car".
The 4.3 liter was available as a touring car, a sedan or a convertible. The superstructures were 4851 mm long and 1778 mm wide. Usually, Alvis only delivered the ready-to-drive chassis and wheelwright shops built the superstructures on behalf of the factory or the customer.
In 1940 the production of the 4.3 liter was discontinued without replacement due to the war .
