The Alvis Firebird was a passenger car that Alvis manufactured from 1934 to 1936 as the successor to the Firefly model .
The car had a significantly larger four-cylinder in - line engine than the previous model with overhead valves . Equipped with a single SU carburettor, the engine with 1842 cc had a capacity of 55 bhp (40 kW) at 4250 rpm. The separate chassis was available with different bodies, for example as a four-door touring car, four-door sedan, two-door convertible or roadster. The front and rear rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical leaf springs. The wheelbase , the type of suspension and, in some cases, the bodies corresponded to the six-cylinder models Silver Eagle SF and SG , which were produced in parallel . The maximum speed was approx. 114 km / h depending on the structure.
In 1937 the model 12/70 replaced the Firebird after 449 copies.
Trevor Wilkinson developed his first TVR vehicle from the Alvis Firebird .
