Models
Speed 25 SB
The Speed 25 SB presented in 1936 combined the chassis of the Speed 20 SD with a 3150 mm wheelbase and independent front suspension on a transverse leaf spring with the 6-cylinder in - line engine with hanging valves of 3½ liter, which had a displacement of 3571 cm³. At Speed 25, this engine, fed by three SU carburettors, made 106 bhp (78 kW) at 3800 rpm. Whereas the brand's earlier six-cylinder engines only had four main bearings, the new unit had seven. The clutch , flywheel and crankshaft were balanced together, which resulted in particularly low vibrations. The cylinder head was made of cast iron, but the pistons were made of aluminum. The three carburettors were fed by two electric fuel pumps.
The frame was made of steel and had sturdy cross members. Alvis only made the chassis for the luxury car. The bodies came from cartwright companies such as Cross and Ellis (touring cars), Charlesworth (sedans and convertibles), Vanden Plas , Lancefield , Offord and others.
The low, sporty appearance, synchronized gearbox, independent front suspension and brake booster made the Alvis Speed 25 a fast, luxurious and reliable car that cost almost £ 1000. The elegant car was the only car model to win the coveted Ladies Choice VSCC Oxford Concourse twice in a row . Many of the cars, all hand-built, have survived to this day.
Speed 25 SC
In 1938 the successor to the SB, the Speed 25 SC , was presented. Externally, no changes were visible and the dimensions and weight of the car of 1854 kg remained the same, but the frame was clearly profiled and lighter. As a result, he gained stiffness.
In 1940 production was discontinued without replacement due to the war .
