The Alvis 3½ liter was a car that Alvis put to the side of the somewhat smaller Speed 20 SD from 1935 to 1936 . As the predecessor of the Speed 25 SB , it also bears the version designation SA.
The 3½ liter SA presented in 1935 had a six-cylinder in - line engine with hanging valves, three SU carburettors and a displacement of 3571 cm³ (bore × stroke = 83 mm × 110 mm), which had an output of 102 bhp (75 kW) at 3600 / min. submitted. The chassis had a wheelbase of 3226 mm and a track width of 1422 mm. A driven rigid axle was installed at the rear, which hung on semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The front of the car had independent suspension with a transverse leaf spring. The cars reached a top speed of 149 km / h.
The model was available as a touring car, a limousine or a convertible. The superstructures were 4712 mm long and 1702 mm wide. Usually, Alvis only delivered the ready-to-drive chassis and wheelwright shops built the superstructures on behalf of the factory or the customer.
In 1937 the 3½ liter SA was replaced by the Speed 25 SB and the 4.3 liter .
