The Alvis 12/60 was a passenger car that Alvis manufactured from 1931 to 1932 as a sports version of the 12/50 model .
The car had an in - line four - cylinder engine with overhead valves . In contrast to the 12/50 model, the engine with two SU carburettors with a displacement of 1645 cm³ made 52 bhp (38 kW) at 4500 rpm.
The 12/60 was available as a two-door sedan or two-door sports tourer (roadster). The front and rear rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical leaf springs. The TK and TL versions differ in their wheels. The maximum speed was approx. 120 km / h depending on the structure. By 1932, 229 had been made.
In the Alvis model range, the 12/60 in the narrower sense had neither a direct predecessor nor a successor. It took account of the fact that the 12/50 TJ model presented the year before was longer, more comfortable, heavier and therefore less sporty than its predecessor. The 12/60 indirectly continued the tradition of the sports model 12/50 SD, which was discontinued in 1929, and the short front-wheel drive models FWD FA and FD , which were intended as successors , but, unlike these, no longer fit into the popular 1.5-liter class, which also was significant for motorsport. On the other hand, the 12/60 covered the gap that emerged at the end of 1930 when the sporty six-cylinder model Silver Eagle SD was replaced by the longer and more comfortable Silver Eagle SE. After the 12/60, Alvis did not take up the tradition of a relatively compact, sportier four-cylinder model until 1937 with the 12/70 .
