Alwin Albert Hafner

Alwin Albert Hafner MSF (born September 11, 1930 in Balsthal , Canton Solothurn ; † January 8, 2016 in Ruswil , Canton Lucerne ) was Bishop of Morombe , Madagascar .

Life

Alwin Albert Hafner joined the Order of Missionaries of the Holy Family and was ordained a priest on June 28, 1957 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Morombe on May 15, 1989 . The Archbishop of Antananarivo , Cardinal Victor Razafimahatratra SJ , consecrated him bishop on April 22 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Gilbert Ramanantoanina SJ, Archbishop of Fianarantsoa , and Bernard Charles Ratsimamotoana MS , Bishop of Morondava .

On July 15, 2000, John Paul II accepted his early resignation for health reasons. He returned to Switzerland in 2001 and has lived in the Schlossmatte Ruswil retirement home since 2005, where he died after a long illness.
