The Erzbistum Fianarantsoa ( lat. : Archidioecesis Fianarantsoaensis ) is in Madagascar preferred Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Fianarantsoa .

history

The Archdiocese of Fianarantsoa was established on May 10, 1913 by Pope Pius X from cession of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate of Central Madagascar as Apostolic Vicariate Fianarantsoa . The Apostolic Vicariate Fianarantsoa gave on June 18, 1935 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture Vatomandry . Further assignments of territory took place on January 8, 1938 to establish the Apostolic Vicariate Antsirabé and the Apostolic Prefecture of Morondava .

On September 14, 1955, the Vicariate Apostolic Fianarantsoa was by Pope Pius XII. raised to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Dum tantis and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tananarive as a suffragan . The diocese of Fianarantsoa was on December 11, 1958 by Pope John XXIII. raised to the archbishopric. On April 9, 1968, the Archdiocese of Fianarantsoa gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Mananjary . Another assignment of territory took place on June 3, 1999 to establish the Diocese of Ambositra .
