The Erzbistum Toamasina ( latin Archidioecesis Toamasinensis ) is in Madagascar preferred Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Toamasina .
history
Pius IX founded the Apostolic Prefecture Vatomandry with the Apostolic Constitution Inter graviores on June 18, 1935 from cessions of territory of the Apostolic Vicariates Fianarantsoa and Tananarive . On May 25, 1939 she was raised to the Apostolic Vicariate and took the name Apostolic Vicariate Tamatave .
Elevated to the diocese, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tananarive as a suffragan, it became with the Bull Dum tantis on September 14, 1955. On December 11, 1958 it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Antsiranana . On April 9, 1968, it lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Diocese of Mananjary . On January 31, 1990, it took on its current name. It was raised to the rank of Metropolitan Archdiocese on February 26, 2010.
