The Erzbistum Antsiranana ( lat. : Archidioecesis Antsirananensis ) is in Madagascar preferred Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Antsiranana .
history
The Archdiocese of Antsiranana was on January 16, 1896 by Pope Leo XIII. Established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate of Madagascar as the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Madagascar . The Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Madagascar was renamed on May 20, 1913 in Apostolic Vicariate Diégo-Suarez . The Apostolic Vicariate Diégo-Suarez gave on March 15, 1923 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Vicariate Majunga .
On September 14, 1955 the Apostolic Vicariate Diégo-Suarez was by Pope Pius XII. raised to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Dum tantis and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tananarive as a suffragan . The Diégo-Suarez bishopric was founded on December 11, 1958 by Pope John XXIII. raised to the archbishopric. On May 21, 1959, the Archdiocese of Diégo-Suarez gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diégo Ambatondrazaka . The Archdiocese of Diégo-Suarez was renamed the Archdiocese of Antsiranana on October 28, 1989 . On October 30, 2000, the Archdiocese of Antsiranana gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Fenoarivo Atsinanana .
