The Bistum Mahajanga ( lat. : Dioecesis Mahagianganus ) is in Madagascar preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Mahajanga .

history

The diocese of Mahajanga was on March 15, 1923 by Pope Pius XI. Established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Diégo-Suarez as Apostolic Vicariate Majunga . The Apostolic Vicariate Majunga gave on January 8, 1931 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Morondava .

On September 14, 1955, the Apostolic Vicariate Majunga was by Pope Pius XII. raised to the diocese. The diocese of Majunga was renamed the Diocese of Mahajanga on October 28, 1989 . On October 18, 1993, the Diocese of Mahajanga gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Port-Bergé .

On February 8, 2017, there were territorial shares in the size of a parish for the establishment of the diocese of Maintirano .

The diocese of Majunga is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Antsiranana as a suffragan .
