history

The diocese of Maintirano was established on February 8, 2017 by Pope Francis from ceding territories of the dioceses Tsiroanomandidy , Mahajanga and Morondava and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Antananarivo as a suffragan diocese. First Bishop was Gustavo Bombin Espino OSST .

The diocese of Maintirano includes the Melaky region .
