The Bistum Ambanja ( lat. : Dioecesis Ambaniaënsis ) is in Madagascar preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Ambanja .

history

Pius IX founded the Apostolic Prefecture of the island of Mayotte , Nossi-Bé and Comoros on September 4, 1848 from cession of territory by the Apostolic Prefecture of Madagascar . On June 14, 1938, it took the name of Ambanja Apostolic Prefecture .

On March 8, 1951, she was promoted to the Apostolic Vicariate . Elevated to the diocese, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Antsiranana as a suffragan, it was with the Bull Dum tantis on September 14, 1955. On June 5, 1975 it lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Apostolic Administration Comoros .

The diocesan cathedral is in Ambanja.
