Amílcar Henríquez Espinoza (born August 2, 1983 in Panama City , † April 15, 2017 in Colón ) was a Panamanian national soccer player .

Career

societies

Henríquez began his professional career in 2003 in his hometown at the local CD Árabe Unido club , for which he completed over 100 competitive games. In 2009 he moved to the Colombian Categoría Primera A for Atlético Huila . After convincing performances in defensive midfield, he aroused the interest of Independiente Medellín , where he moved in 2012. There he reached the peak of his club career. From 2014 he only played for lower-class Colombian clubs and his hometown club Árabe Unido, for whom he was on the field until his death.

On April 15, 2017, Henríquez died from injuries sustained in a shooting in front of his home. In memory of Henríquez, his last club Árabe Unido decided not to award his jersey number 21 anymore.

National team

Henríquez made his debut for the Panamanian national soccer team on February 19, 2005 in the 1-0 win against El Salvador at the 2005 UNCAF Nations Cup . With Panama he also took part in the 2007 and 2009 UNCAF Nations Cup . In 2009 he won the title with Panama. In addition, he participated with Panama in the Gold Cups 2007 , 2009 and 2011, as well as the Central American Football Championships in 2011, 2014 and 2017 and the Copa América Centenario 2016 . Henríquez played his 86th and last international match in a 1-1 draw in the World Cup qualifier against the USA on March 29, 2017, when he came on for Gabriel Gómez in the 80th minute .
