Wilhelm Gottfried von Jochens (born July 6, 1769 on Ellguth near Stroppen (Guhrau district), † March 16, 1852 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

His parents were Daniel Jochens (born April 11, 1730, † April 10, 1821) and his wife Wilhelmine Sophie, née von Opitz. She was a daughter of the ducal Württemberg-Oelsnischen council Carl Ferdinand von Opitz, who was ennobled in 1740. The father was a lieutenant in a volunteer corps and later a general tenant of the Ellguth and Schmarke estates in the Duchy of Oels . Four brothers served in the Prussian army .

Military career

Jochens came on February 20, 1788 as a private corporal in the fusilier battalion "von Schmidthenner" of the Prussian army and advanced to the end of April 1790 as second lieutenant . In the First Coalition War he fought at the siege of Verdun and the battles near Hochheim, Alsheim, Limbach, Tann, Steinbach, Busenberg, Neustadt, Türkheim, Ensbach, Castell and Hochspeier. He was wounded in the battle near Deidesheim and awarded the Order of Pour le Mérite on June 7, 1794 .

On October 6, 1797, he was first lieutenant in the fusilier battalion "von Anhalt". There Jochens rose to staff captain on November 6, 1804 and was wounded in the battle of Jena during the Fourth Coalition War . Due to the defeat of Prussia, he was made inactive in 1807 after the peace of Tilsit with half pay.

Jochens returned to the army as a captain in mid-June 1811 . On October 27, 1812 he became a district officer in the gendarmerie . With the beginning of the Wars of Liberation he was on June 12, 1813 in the III. Battalion of the 1st Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 11 transferred. Jochens fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Dresden , Laon , Paris , Ligny , Belle Alliance and in the battles near Haynau , Peterswalde, Nollendorf, Wavre and Namur. For Haynau he received the Iron Cross 2nd class on June 27, 1813 , at Tellnitz he was wounded and awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV class. On October 2, 1815, Jochens received the Iron Cross First Class for Namur and one day later he was promoted to lieutenant colonel .

On November 15, 1816 he was appointed commander of the 5th Infantry Regiment (4th East Prussian) and in this position Jochens was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1823 with a patent from April 9, 1823 . On June 29, 1828, he was transferred to Danzig as 2nd Commandant . On March 20, 1834, he retired as major general with an annual pension of 1750 thalers. On July 18, 1844, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awarded him the crown of the Order Pour le Mérite on the occasion of the 50 years of ownership. Jochens died on March 16, 1852 in Breslau.

In his assessment from the year 1819, General von Funck wrote: “Combines a thorough and thorough knowledge of the service with an extremely good method of training the regiment under him down to the last detail. Lead the regiment with caution and security, fill his post completely and be respectable in his behavior and in moral terms. "

Jochens married Henriette Schramm (* 1794; † 23 August 1831) on July 30, 1817 in Gnesen , a daughter of the director of the cathedral monastery in Breslau and an episcopal consistorial councilor . The couple had several children:
