Amadou Cissé Dia

Amadou Cissé Dia (born June 2, 1915 in Saint-Louis , Senegal , † November 1, 2002 in Dakar ) was a Senegalese politician who was minister several times and President of the National Assembly between 1968 and 1983 .

Life

Amadou Cissé Dia graduated from the École normal William Ponty , the teacher training institute of French West Africa , was a member of the General Council of French West Africa from 1946 to 1952 and was one of the founders of the Bloc démocratique sénégal in 1948 alongside Léopold Sédar Senghor , Mamadou Dia and Ibrahima Seydou Ndaw (BDS). Between March 1952 and March 1957 he was a member of the Territorial Council of French West Africa and, among other things, until 1959 Medical Director of the Health Service of the Kaolack Region and from July 1958 to October 1959 President of the Mutual Society for Rural Development (Société Mutuelle de Développement Rural) of the Sine-Saloum region . He was President of the Delegation Commission of the Assembly of the Mali Federation, founded in January 1959, and Deputy Secretary for Propaganda of the Union progressiste sénégalaise (UPS), founded in 1958, between February 1959 and July 1960 .

In the government of the autonomous Republic of Senegal under the President of the Government Council Mamadou Dia, Amadou Cissé Dia was State Secretary for Trade and Industry from October 19, 1959 to March 3, 1960, and then between March 3, 1960 and May 12, 1961 Minister of Commerce and Industry in the government of Mamadou Dia, who had been Prime Minister of Senegal since May 18, 1960 . In 1960 he obtained a medical diploma from the Dakar Medical School (Ecole de Médecine) . He then served as Minister for Health and Social Affairs from May 13, 1961 to November 1962, and Minister for Assistance and Technical Cooperation between November and December 1962. After the post of Prime Minister was abolished on December 18, 1962, he was Minister for the Armed Forces in the government of President Léopold Sédar Senghor from December 1962 to March 19, 1965 . He was also Secretary General for Coordination of UPS in the Kaolack Department and Secretary General of UPS in the Sine-Saloum region.

Amadou Cissé Dia then acted as Minister of the Interior between March 19, 1965 and June 5, 1968 and, from June 5, 1968, he was briefly Assistant Minister to President Léopold Sédar Senghor. In addition, he was temporarily Deputy Secretary General of UPS. In 1968 he succeeded Lamine Guèye as President of the National Assembly (Assemblée nationale du Sénégal) . He held this office for 15 years until 1983 when Habib Thiam succeeded him .

For his many years of service he was made a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor , Commander of the Ordre de la Santé publique , officer of the Académie and holder of the Médaille d'honneur des Epidémies . Dia has also written several plays such as La mort du Damel and Les derniers jours de Lat-Dior .
