Amadou Jawo (born September 26, 1984 in Banjul ) is a Swedish football player with Gambian roots. The striker made his debut in Swedish professional football in 2009 and has since played for Gefle IF and IF Elfsborg in the Allsvenskan . His brother Omar Jawo is also a soccer player.
Career
Born in Gambia, Jawo came to Sweden with his family at the age of five. She settled in Täby, north of Stockholm , because her father found a job there in a hotel. Despite initial language problems, he made friends through playing football and joined the local sports club IK Frej , where his siblings were also active. At the age of 16 he made his debut for the club on the adult team. In 2002 Jawo joined the then third division club Vallentuna BK , with whom, however, at the end of the 2004 season, he was relegated to the fourth division as penultimate in the table. There he remained loyal to the club and became one of the best midfielders in the league.
After Jawo had previously auditioned at Djurgårdens IF , he signed a three-year contract with Gefle IF in November 2007 after a trial training session . Christer Mattiasson , his trainer at Vallentuna BK, had recommended a move to one of the smaller first division clubs. At his new club, he quickly established himself as a regular, coach Per Olsson used him in 27 of the 30 league games in his first season. With five goals this season he was one of the guarantors of the league in the attacking duo with Hans Berggren , which was achieved on the last non-relegation place. Also in the following season was undisputed regular strength, by the end of July he had again scored five goals in 14 games.
During the summer transfer period 2009, Jawo moved within Allsvenskan to IF Elfsborg , where he signed a contract with a term of five years. When signing up, coach Magnus Haglund highlighted his strength in the face-to-face game and his versatility, which allows him to play on both wings. Nevertheless, he was unable to assert himself as a regular player and fluctuated between the starting eleven and the bench. In the 2011 season he moved into the second tier and, after a knee injury slowed him down in autumn, only made 13 appearances this season. Under the new coach Jörgen Lennartsson , Jawo temporarily returned to the starting line-up during the 2012 season , but could not prevail over the long term. With two goals in 14 games this season, he contributed to winning the championship title.
In March 2013 Jawo left the club from Borås on loan and joined the Stockholm league rivals Djurgårdens IF , where coach Magnus Pehrsson had hopes for him as a central striker.
