Ambesager Sium Yosief (born June 29, 1984 in Asmara ) is an Eritrean football player .

biography

Yosief was part of the Eritrean national soccer team at the 2009 CECAFA Cup in Kenya . The team that had only recently been put together surprisingly reached the quarter-finals, but lost 4-0 to Tanzania. Before the upcoming return flight, twelve national players, including Yosief, separated from the national team in a planned action. Eleven of the twelve refugee players stayed together and applied for asylum at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Nairobi . This was granted to the athletes and after eight months in a special security area in the Kakuma refugee camp , Yosief, Nevi Ghebremeskez , Alemayo Kebede , Samuel Tesfagabr , Yonatan Goitum , Mehari Shinash , Ermias Tekle , Ermias Haile , Jemal Abdu , Testfaldet Goitom and Bruk Asres die Departure to Adelaide, Australia .

All eleven footballers were recognized as refugees by the Australian government and were given permanent rights of residence. For better integration, the players were placed in the semi-professional FFSA Super League at four clubs in the region . Yosief, who found a job as a factory worker, was assigned to the Western Strikers and made 18 league games (one goal) for the club in the 2011 season and also helped win the 2011 FFSA Coca-Cola Federation Cup. His achievements, which brought him to third place in the vote for league player of the year, also aroused interest from the professional sector and in September 2011 he moved to the A-League club Gold Coast United just like his teammate Tesfagabr . As recognized refugees, both were not part of the already exhausted quota of foreigners and each signed a one-year contract. The central defender made his debut in the top Australian league on October 30, 2011 as a substitute against Newcastle United Jets (final score 3: 1), in the following months he made two more appearances, but was particularly successful after the game against Sydney FC ( Final score 2: 3) criticized by coach Miron Bleiberg when he owed the game-winning penalty in the last minute of the game, acting in the unfamiliar left-back position. After the owner of Gold Coast United had their license withdrawn in early 2012 and the team ended the season under the leadership of the Australian Association, the team was disbanded at the end of the season.
