American Utopia is a documentary by Spike Lee , who in September 2020 as the opening film of the Toronto film festival will celebrate its premiere. It is a recording of the Broadway production of the same name by the British-American musician David Byrne .

The show includes songs that Byrne wrote as an independent musician, especially for his seventh studio album American Utopia , and well-known pieces of music by the Talking Heads, but also Janelle Monáes Hell You Talmbout .

A first screening is planned for September 2020, where it will be shown as the opening film of the Toronto Film Festival . It is set to premiere on HBO in the fall of 2020.
