The Gahlen zu Hünxe office was an administrative body in the Dinslaken district from 1815 to 1974 . It initially belonged to the province of Jülich-Kleve-Berg and the administrative district of Kleve , both of which were dissolved on June 22, 1822 and merged with the southern province of Lower Rhine to form the Rhine province (until 1946) and with the administrative district of Düsseldorf and then with the dissolution of the Free State of Prussia became part of the new state of North Rhine-Westphalia . It was named after the historically significant community (mayor's office) Gahlen.
history
In 1815, the mayor was Gahlen from the communities Bruckhausen , Bucholtwelmen (consisting of the peasantry Bucholt and Welmen) Gahlen with the peasantry Hardt , Östrich , best, break and Espel, Gartrop-Buhl (House Gartrop with freedom Gartrop and the peasantry Bühl), Hünxe and Hünxerwald with headquarters in Gahlen. It belonged to the canton of Dinslaken (from 1816 district of Dinslaken), Rhine province in the Kingdom of Prussia. It was considered the legal successor to the Gahlen municipality, which emerged during the French occupation. The first mayor was Georg Friedrich Schmidt from Gahlen. In 1850 the community of Hünxerwald was divided between Gartrop-Bühl and Hünxe; the area south of the Wesel-Kirchhellen-Weg came to Hünxe, the other part to Gartrop-Bühl. In 1858 the official seat was moved to Gartrop on the "Varnsteegshof" and in 1902 the seat was moved to Hünxe, where the municipal administration is still located today. The Prussian law on the regulation of various points of the municipal constitutional law of December 27, 1927 stipulated in § 2: "The mayor's office in the Rhine province now uses the designation office" .; thus Gahlen became Hünxe from the mayor's office. With the Prussian law on the municipal reorganization of the Rhenish-Westphalian industrial area on August 1, 1929, the Hardt farmers were assigned to the municipality of Gahlen in the city of Dorsten. On September 1, 1960, the communities of Bruckhausen, Bucholtwelmen and Hünxe merged to form the new community of Hünxe. Three communities then belonged to the official area.

coat of arms
Blazon : “In the divided shield above in blue two crossed golden (yellow) keys, overlaid by an eight-pointed golden (yellow) star; below in red half a silver (white) label on the dividing line, covered with a half golden (yellow) lily reel. " | |
Justification of the coat of arms: The Gahlen Office was given a coat of arms by the Interior Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1950. It is derived from an aldermen's seal of the community of Gahlen from 1540, which shows the crucified St. Peter, parish patron of the local churches and showed half the Klevian lily reel below. The community of Hünxe has had a jury seal since 1456 , which shows the seated figure of the local patron, St. Suitbertus in the bishop's robe, in the left a bishop's staff and in the right an eight-pointed star. In addition to the lily reel , as a symbol of the former sovereigns, both attributes of the saint, star and key of the largest communities of the office were included in the coat of arms. |

resolution
As early as the end of 1969, models about the future membership of the communities were discussed in the Gahlen Office. Initial proposals for assignments of Bruckhausen to Dinslaken and Bucholtwelmen to Wesel were rejected. While Hünxe and Gartrop-Bühl were clearly in favor of a merger, the situation in the municipality of Gahlen was not so clear. Gahlen favored a merger with the city of Dorsten without losing territory. If this is not approved, then a merger with the community of Schermbeck, also without assignment of territory, if it is assigned to the Recklinghausen district .
With the "Law for the reorganization of the municipalities and districts of the Lower Rhine area ( Niederrhein Law )" of July 9, 1974, the dissolution of the Gahlen office was regulated, which came into force on January 1, 1975. The “§ 3 Municipality of Hünxe” reads as follows: “The new municipality of Hünxe is formed from municipalities from both the Rees and Dinslaken districts. These are the municipalities of Gartrop-Bühl and Hünxe , the Gahlen district (Dinslaken district), Drevenack and Krudenburg of the Schermbeck district (Rees district). The new municipality is the legal successor to the Gahlen office. There is also an exchange of territory with the municipality of Voerde . "
The community of Gahlen is assigned to the community of Schermbeck . The Gahlen district of Östrich is incorporated into the city of Dorsten with the Ruhr Area Act .
