history
The Benedictine convent St. Gotthard zu Heusdorf was founded in 1123. Thanks to extensive donations from, among others, the Lords of Isserstedt and the Schenken und Vitzthume von Apolda , the monastery developed into an influential landlord in the region. In the course of the Reformation in 1536 it was converted into a sovereign office (so-called "Klosteramt Heusdorf"). At that time, this included Heusdorf, Herressen, Nauendorf, Schöten and part of Stiebritz. In 1544, the von Denstedt family acquired both the Heusdorf monastery and the shares of Stiebritz that had previously belonged to the Bürgel monastery , whereby Stiebritz came completely to the Heusdorf office. The Heusdorf office remained in the possession of this family until 1595.
After the Wittenberg surrender in 1547, the office of Heusdorf came to the Duchy of Saxony of the Ernestines . When Erfurt was divided in 1572 it came to the Duchy of Saxony-Weimar and when it was divided in 1603 to the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg . From 1643 to 1647 it was leased to the Lords of Witzleben . After the Sachsen-Altenburg line died out, the Heusdorf office fell back to Sachsen-Weimar in 1672, but was assigned to the Duchy of Sachsen-Jena when the country was divided . After the Sachsen-Jena line had already expired in 1690, the Heusdorf office fell back to Sachsen-Weimar. Since 1691 it was assigned to the Kapellendorf office as a rent office , but kept its own financial administration. With the union of the duchies of Saxony-Weimar and Saxony-Eisenach in 1741, the Heusdorf office belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach .
Due to the effects of the Congress of Vienna , the Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach was elevated to a Grand Duchy in 1815 . The offices of the Grand Duchy were restructured as a result of the territorial gains. When the Heusdorf office was dissolved in 1818, Heusdorf, Nauendorf, Herressen and Schöten came to the Roßla office . The Stiebritz, which was separated from these places, was incorporated into the Dornburg office.
