Buckau District Court
The Buckau District Court was a district court in the town of Buckau, which today belongs to Magdeburg, in the then Prussian province of Saxony .
history
In 1877 the city of Buckau had started negotiations with the judicial authorities in order to transfer the activities of district court commissions to Buckau. The population and economic strength of Buckau had risen sharply in a relatively short time, as the place at the gates of the city of Magdeburg developed from a rural community into an important industrial location. In 1878 the negotiations were completed. Buckau undertook, at his own expense, to build today's Thiemstrasse, a district court building including a prison, on a municipal property in Wilhelmstrasse, and then to sell it to the judiciary for 38,000 marks.
The court building was designed by the Magdeburg master builder Costenoble and approved by the judicial authorities. The construction work was incumbent on the Buckau master mason CA Schmidt and should cost 51,919.83 marks. According to the contract, completion took place on August 20, 1879. The construction ultimately cost 55,567.15 marks and was handed over to the judiciary in September 1879.
The court began operating on October 1, 1879. Two commissions were formed, one for the rural district and one for the city district. The commission for the rural district included District Court Judge Bernhard Rudolf as the supervising judge, the clerk Friedrich Feuerschütz and the actuary Adolf Vorberg. Vorberg drowned in the Elbe on November 23, 1879 . August Knopf took over his position on January 1, 1880. The district included the places Dodendorf , Fermersleben , Lemsdorf , Osterweddingen , Salbke , Sohlen and Westerhüsen . The commission for the rural district was also exclusively responsible for general and lay judge matters.
The commission for the Buckau district was headed by District Court Judge Karl Meinhard as judge. After he was transferred to Magdeburg in 1884, he was succeeded by August Melior. The court clerk was Hermann Rudorf and the actuary was Gustav Paschen.
In addition, the court usher and prison guard Rudolf Wagner and the bailiff Eduard Pernutz belonged to the court .
Files were “ fudge ” handed over to the court . On October 1st, country people from Dodendorf appeared who wanted to have a receipt and bond taken out. However, since the files were still in a mess, the correct file could not be found. The corresponding official act could therefore only be carried out on October 2nd. The city commission recorded a lawsuit against a person from Buckau as the first case. On October 13, 1879, a first meeting of aldermen took place on three matters. The judges were the Buckau master butcher Friedrich North and Kossat August Herbst from Osterweddingen .
Use of the prison was only possible from November 1, 1879, as the building was not yet dry. The first inmate was a schoolgirl from Buckau who had been arrested for stealing a watch.
On April 1, 1887, the district court was repealed. At this time, the city of Buckau was incorporated into Magdeburg. With the exception of Dodendorf and Osterweddingen, the judicial district is now part of the Magdeburg District Court .
