The Daun District Court is a court of ordinary jurisdiction in Rhineland-Palatinate and one of eight district courts in the district of the Trier District Court . The court has its seat in the town of Daun in the Vulkaneifel district .

history

The history of jurisdiction in Daun goes back to the 14th century. 1337 Daun was first mentioned as a city in 1346 followed by the Archbishop of Trier Balduin the award of municipal rights . The right to a separate jurisdiction was connected with the city rights . In addition, Daun was also the seat of the Electoral Trier office of Daun , which also included the "Kampbücheler High Court ".

Due to the First Coalition War , the left bank of the Rhine came to France after 1794 . In 1798, Daun became the seat of a canton and a court of justice . After the Rhineland was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815, the courts of justice continued to exist in the area to the left of the Rhine. The justice of the peace in Daun was manned by a judge of the peace, a clerk and two "supplementary peace judges", a notary and a bailiff.

By the Courts Constitution Act of January 27, 1877, the Daun Peace Court was renamed the Daun District Court on October 1, 1879. It is not known where the district court was located.

Later they moved into a building in the former Provinzialstraße, today's Wirichstraße. In December 1944, the building was damaged in a bomb attack, and the district court was temporarily housed in Daun Castle. Since the branch of the district court in Hillesheim was closed in 1968 and the capacities for the areas taken over were insufficient, parts of the district court were housed in the former royal district office from 1830 in today's Leopoldstrasse. The district court remained in the building on Wirichstrasse until 1976. The building is now a listed building.

Construction of today's courthouse began in 1985. The inauguration took place on March 19, 1987 in the presence of Justice Minister Heribert Bickel .
