The Mayen District Court is a court of ordinary jurisdiction and one of 15 District Courts (AG) in the district of the Koblenz District Court .

The court is based in Mayen in the Mayen-Koblenz district . The 441 km² judicial district extends to the area of ​​the city of Mayen and the municipalities of Maifeld , Mendig and Vordereifel . Around 74,000 people live in it.

The Mayen District Court is a joint dunning court for the states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland . As a panel of lay judges , Jugendschöffen- , insolvency and agricultural court it is also for the District of District Court Andernach responsible. Commercial , association and partnership registers are kept at the Koblenz District Court .

The court is housed in the Wilhelmine-style building opened in 1911 at St. Veit-Straße 38 . The courthouse was badly damaged in a bombing raid on January 2, 1945, in which 65 people were killed. The destroyed west wing was rebuilt after the Second World War . A five-storey extension was built in 1991/1992 to process the dunning procedure .

The “head group” by the sculptor Peter Rübsam has stood on the lawn in front of the courthouse since 1994 . The six basalt sculptures were created in 1988 and are on permanent loan from the artist to the court.

history

The Mayen office had had lower and higher jurisdiction since the end of the Middle Ages. With the town charter of 1556, a two-week lay jury was established. From 1821 Mayen was the seat of one of the peace courts established in the Rhine Province . In its place came with the enactment of the Judicature Act in 1879, the district court Mayen.

Superior courts

The District Court of Koblenz is superordinate to the Mayen District Court. The competent higher regional court is the higher regional court Koblenz .
