Ana María Rabe
Ana María Rabe (born January 10, 1967 in Buenos Aires ) is a philosopher of German-Spanish origin. Her research focuses on aesthetics , art philosophy , epistemology and contemporary philosophy. Since 2014 she has been Professor of Philosophy at the University of Antioquia in Medellín , Colombia .
Life
Ana María Rabe was born in 1967 in the Belgrano district of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. Like her four siblings, she descends from a German father, Karl Heinz Hermann Rabe, and a Spanish mother, Concepción Rabe (née Ruiz Torres). Rabe found early access to Spanish, German and Russian-language literature and philosophy through the private library of her grandfather Antonio Ruiz Rey from Madrid, a respected psychiatrist and dissident in French-speaking Spain. The mother was the ninth and youngest child of Mariano Ruiz Cánovas, a well-known Spanish psychiatrist. Ana María Rabe grew up bilingual.
In 1992 she obtained her master's degree in philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) in Munich with a thesis on Kant's Critique of Judgment and Jan Mukařovský's conception of aesthetic function. In 2004 she obtained her diploma as a state-certified translator (German-Spanish) in the humanities department at the Languages & Interpreters Institute in Munich . In 2007 she did her doctorate at the University of Fine Arts Braunschweig with a thesis on the problem of space in philosophy, art and theoretical physics, supervised by Hannes Böhringer and Bernhard Lypp.
Rabe's academic career as a university lecturer began in 1992 with a teaching position for philosophy at the LMU Munich and a simultaneous employment as a research assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich , where she then worked from 1993 to 1999 as a research assistant at the chair for philosophy of Prof. Dr. Bernhard Lypp was active. In the following years up to 2014 she was employed at many other German and Spanish universities, colleges and research centers:
- 1999–2001 as a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich
- 2001–2002 as a visiting professor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid
- 2008–2011 employed post-doctoral researcher at the Institute for Philosophy of the Spanish Research Center Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas
- 2009–2011 guest lecturer at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas ( Pontifical University of Comillas ) in Madrid
- between 2011 and 2013 as a lecturer at the University of the Arts Berlin , the Burg Giebichenstein Art Academy Halle , the Art Academy Berlin-Weißensee , the University of Fine Arts Braunschweig and the Philipps University Marburg
- 2013 as the first holder of the newly established Eduardo Chillida guest professorship at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main
- 2013–14 as a research assistant at the University of Hildesheim Foundation .
She was invited as a foreign visiting professor in 2001 by the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno in Belarus, in 2009 by the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira in Colombia and the Universidad de Puerto Rico , in 2012 by the Royal College of Art in London , and in 2013 by the Ural Federal University in Yekaterinburg (Russia), in 2014 from the Universidad Austral de Chile in Valdivia and between 2015 and 2018 again and again at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid. In November 2014 she was appointed to the Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín (Colombia), where she has held a professorship for contemporary philosophy since then.
In addition to her academic career, since 1993 she has also worked as a freelancer for various newspapers in Argentina and the USA , including the Argentinisches Tageblatt in Buenos Aires, and from 1994 for the legendary German-Jewish newspaper Aufbau in New York . In the 1990s, Rabe wrote music, theater, dance and art reviews in New York, as well as essays and reports on contemporary and current topics in Buenos Aires.
From 1998 Rabe also worked in Munich, Madrid and Berlin as an author for art catalogs, as a translator of philosophical and art-historical articles and books, as well as an art critic for various German and Spanish-language media. a. for the magazines Kulturwechsel , Cuadernos Hispanoamericanos, ECOS de España y Latinoamérica , Aesthetics & Communication , Descubrir el ARTE, Young Art.
Her partner is the philosopher Stascha Rohmer .
