Anarchicks is a Portuguese band from the Lisbon area . It consists of four young women and plays a style of music oriented towards punk and new wave .

history

The four young women got together in 2011 to play energetic music, with a guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and vocals from all four. They see themselves in the tradition of the Riot Grrrls and from the beginning they played with the clichées of the different musical styles that they mix. In 2012 a first 4-song EP was released.

They were heard for the first time on the radio in 2012 in the show Indiegente , an influential alternative music program that has been on Antena 3 since the mid-1990s . The show's DJ and presenter, Nuno Calado, played the track Forever there , which came from the recordings of their first album, which was only released later.

2013 appeared with Really ?! the band's first full album. It received some media attention and the band has been invited to appear on TV shows several times, including an interview on the RTP's news program on International Women's Day on March 8, 2013. The group continued to grow noticeably, both through the album and the associated video clips, which also showed the band's closeness to the alternative art and designer scene in Lisbon. On the other hand, the group continued to attract attention with their concerts, at which the quartet repeatedly gave their energetic live performances in unusual places, for example in the Carris buses during the Vodafone Mexefest in Lisbon in 2012 or in April 2013 from the open windows of an insurance building at the Avenida dos Aliados , the boulevard of Porto .

They played at the Super Bock Super Rock Festival 2013, as the opening band on the Super Bock stage, and performed several times abroad, especially in France, for example with Peaches in Le Havre, where they covered the Beatles with her . Anarchicks also played with foreign bands in Portugal, such as the Brazilian girl band Cansei de Ser Sexy or the Berlin power pop band The Not Amused .

At the end of January 2014, the band began work on a new album.
