Andaz ( Hindi : अंदाज़ , andāz ) is a hit 1949 Hindi film by Mehboob Khan .

action

Rich 19-year-old Neeta unfortunately falls off her horse and rolls down the slope. Fortunately, Dilip, who is nearby, rescues her at the last moment. She thanks him, but Dilip is so impressed with her that he befriends her. Since then, he has been paying Neeta visits and meeting her friends. This is a thorn in Neeta's father Badriprasad, and he warns his daughter not to get involved with Dilip, as Dilip may be hoping for more than just a friendship.

One day, at the birthday party of Neeta's best friend Sheela, Dilip realizes that he has fallen in love with Neeta and tries to tell her. As fate would have it, Neeta's father dies of a heart attack that day. Neeta finds consolation in Dilip, who now leaves the management of the Dilip company. Dilip, in turn, understands this as a sign of love and wants to reveal his true feelings. But at that moment a man named Rajan appears.

Rajan is Neeta's ex-chauffeur and has just returned from London . Dilip is shocked to learn that Rajan is also Neeta's fiancé. Eventually the two married shortly afterwards. However, Dilip insisted on revealing his love for Neeta on the wedding day. Now Neeta is completely absent-minded because she only saw Dilip as a good friend.

This confession of love leaves some mark on Neeta and Rajan's marriage. Although Neeta has now given birth to a daughter, Rajan is jealous because he believes Neeta's heart belongs to Dilip and suspects an affair.

The situation slowly escalates and there is a big argument between Dilip and Rajan. Dilip, who sustained a serious injury, turns to Neeta, who shoots him. Neeta is arrested. At the trial, Rajan Neeta refuses to come to the rescue. On the contrary: his testimony is true. So the sentence is life sentence.

Only later does Rajan discover that Neeta only loved him. During a visit to prison he promises Neeta to support her. He also wants to protect their daughter from the same mistakes his wife makes. Neeta has now realized that she would have been spared all of this if she had taken seriously her father's warning back then.

Reviews

Melodrama that uses a key figure in a woman to dramatize the contradicting proposition that the new, independent India should value capitalist modernization while upholding feudal family traditions and moral values.

Others

This is the only joint film by the three superstars Raj Kapoor , Dilip Kumar and Nargis .

The performers of the film songs are Shamshad Begum , Lata Mangeshkar , Mukesh and Mohammed Rafi . In particular, the Naushad pieces Hum aaj kahin dil kho baithe , Tu kahe agar and Jhoom jhoom ke nacho aaj sung by Mukesh made the film a great musical success. The lyrics are from Majrooh Sultanpuri .
