The Anderson Valley AVA is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The area is within the Anderson Valley in the Mendocino County administrative area and borders the Yorkville Highlands AVA . The region, only 15–20 km from the Pacific Ocean , is known for fresh pinot noir and good sparkling wine . Due to the proximity to the Pacific, the area benefits from the cooling mists. That's why Riesling and Gewürztraminer also thrive here . A so-called Alsatian wine festival is organized within the wine-growing region based on these grape varieties , but local wines are served.
