Andijk ( ) ( West Frisian Andoik ) is a village and a formerly independent municipality in the West Friesland region in the Dutch province of North Holland , which lies on the IJsselmeer . The place has 6,665 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and has an area of 22.84 km², of which 1.82 km² are water. Andijk has been part of the Medemblik municipality since January 1, 2011 .
history
The name Andijk comes from am Deich , Andijk and the dyke were part of the city of Stede Broec . In 1667 a church was built. Andijk is located in the historic Westflinge region . During the French occupation, Andijk became an independent municipality by imperial decree of October 21, 1811 from January 1, 1812.
economy
Andijk has a fertile clay soil , agriculture and horticulture are the main sources of income. It is cauliflower cultivated potatoes are grown and the cultivation and distribution of flower bulbs are important. Even drinking water for the region is obtained in Andijk.
Another source of income are the tourist activities in the village. In Andijk there are two holiday parks. Holiday park Het Grootslag and the holiday park Ijsselhof. There are over 400 holiday homes in the two parks.
Trial polder
From 1926 to 1927 a test polder was set up near Andijk in the Zuiderzee to test the establishment and cultivation of further polder polders in the IJsselmeer, starting with the polder in Wieringermeer . Today the polder is still partly used for agriculture, but also for tourism. Campsites and two marinas have been built, and the whole polder will be used for tourism in the future.
