André Antoine Brugiroux (born November 11, 1937 in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges , France ) is a French globetrotter and writer . From 1955 to 2005 he visited all countries in the world . In the hit list Viajeros notables contemporáneos (Notable Travelers in Our Time) by Jorge Sánchez, he is referred to as the "Greatest Living Traveler". He documented his first 18-year trip in a film.

Brugiroux's father worked for the French railways and his mother an accountant . He spent his childhood in Brunoy in the Seine-et-Oise department , northeast of Paris . André completed his school days at the “Ecole des Mardelles” in Brunoy and at the “Collège Saint-Augustin” in Montgeron . Too little work on the small family farm forced his father to move to the Île-de-France .

His mother, who had gone on a few excursions before they married, encouraged him to travel and enrolled him in the Boy Scouts . There he was given the totem name “Fouine Babillarde” ( chatty stone marten ).

The earth is just one country , the title of his first book as well as his film is the summary and guiding principle of his first 18-year journey: From 1955 to 1973 he hitchhiked 400,000 km, crossed 135 countries and only had one US Dollars spent a day. At the age of 17 he finished his training at the hotel management school in Paris and left home with ten French francs in cash. Seven years he has worked in various countries in Europe while getting to foreign languages. Between his stays in Spain and the Federal Republic of Germany , he completed his military service in the Republic of Congo from 1958/59 .

He then worked as a translator in Canada for three years to save money and was able to travel for six years without having to work. He hitchhiked his travels exclusively, including by plane, boat and sailboat, and on average he only spent one US dollar a day.

During his tour, he was captured seven times and his life was in danger several times. He lived with Albert Schweitzer in Lambaréné , with the hippies in San Francisco , with the head tailors in Borneo and with the bigwigs in Bangkok . He learned yoga in an Indian school and worked in a kibbutz in Israel .

During his travels he learned of the teachings of Baha'u'llah , the founder of the Baha'i religion, and accepted the belief. Since then he has authored several books on the history of the Baha'i religion .

After André Brugiroux published his first book, edited his documentary and restored his health, he set off again. For the next 30 years he went on six to seven months annual lecture tours from France to other countries and showed his film there. In 1984 he married the sociologist Rinia Van Kante from Suriname . Your daughter's name is Natascha. His last trip took him to the polar bears in Churchill Bay in Manitoba ( Canada ) in 2005 .
