André Leduc

André Leduc (born November 27, 1949 in Verdun , Québec ) is a Canadian animator and film director .

Life

Leduc studied at the École des arts appliqués in the 1960s, and it was at this time that he began making his first 8 mm films . His short film Oasis , made during his student days, was awarded the main prize at the third Canadian Student Film Festival. After completing his studies, Leduc joined the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) in 1972 , where he worked as a director, screenwriter and animator. His short animated film Monsieur Pointu , created with Bernard Longpré and produced by René Jodoin , received an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film in 1976 . L'affaire Bronswik was screened in Cannes in 1978 in the competition for the Palme d'Or for the best short film . Leduc received two further nominations for a Golden Palm for Zea (1981) and Jours de plaine (1990, with Réal Bérard ).

Leduc also worked as an animator for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation , led animation workshops and was from 1977 to 1982 coordinator of the animation program at Concordia University in Montreal . From 1983 to 1995 he taught animation at the Université du Québec in Montreal.
