André Robrechte
André Robrechte (born December 16, 1797 in Brussels , † May 23, 1860 in Paris ) was a Belgian violinist and composer .
Live and act
André Robrechtes received violin lessons from Corneille Vander Plancken (1772–1849), concertmaster of the Brussels Opera . After making technical progress at an early stage, he came to the Paris Conservatory in 1814 , which a few months later had to be temporarily closed for political reasons. So he became a private student of Pierre Baillot and Anton Reicha . Back in Brussels, he received lessons from Giovanni Battista Viotti , whom he followed for several years on his travels, including to London.
Robrechte was concertmaster in the royal chapel of King Wilhelm I (Netherlands) in Brussels. He held this post until the Belgian Revolution of 1830. He then moved back to Paris, where he had great success as a concert violinist. In the meantime, François-Joseph Fétis was able to engage him as a violin professor at the newly founded Brussels Conservatory for a few months. His most famous student was Charles-Auguste de Bériot . After his death he was buried in the Montmarte cemetery.
Robrechts played a violin attributed to Guarneri del Gesù from 1728, which has since been known under the name "Ex-Robrechts" or "Ex-Robrecht".
