Through his best patron, his father, he received his first music lessons in the Sint-Cecilia wind orchestra in Mont-à-Leux near Mouscron. At the age of six he played the trumpet in this wind orchestra . He financed his studies in part by participating in the ORTF jazz orchestra in Lille . After his military service, he continued his studies in counterpoint and composition at the Conservatory in Mons and graduated with honors.

In the meantime he worked at the Municipal Music Academy in Mouscron and became conductor of Harmonie La Mouscronnoise and conductor of the Harmonie Royale . His first compositions for the Orchester à vent (wind orchestra) were written at this time. He led the mid-1970s Jazz - Big Band West Music Club emerged with several albums.

His compositions have received numerous prizes (including the European Union of Radio Broadcasting Prize and the SABAM Prize ) and awards and have since made their way to the music stands of wind bands around the world.

In his later years he headed the Tournai Music Conservatory and was Professor of Harmony at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels.
