Andrés Sapelak SDB (born December 13, 1919 in Ryszkowa Wola , Poland ; † November 6, 2017 in Wynnyky ) was a Ukrainian clergyman and Ukrainian Catholic bishop of the Eparchy of Santa María del Patrocinio in Buenos Aires .

Life

Andrés Sapelak entered the religious community of the Salesians of Don Bosco , made his solemn profession on June 29, 1946 and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1949 .

On August 14, 1961 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed auxiliary bishop in the ordinariate for the Byzantine faithful in Argentina and titular bishop of Sebastopolis in Thracia . On 15 October 1961 he donated Curia Archbishop Ivan Bucko the episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were the Coadjutor Archbishop of Belgrade , Gabrijel Bukatko , and the Apostolic Exarch of the Exarchate of France , Volodymyr Malanczuk CSsR .

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

On February 9, 1968 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed archbishop exarch of Argentina and with the establishment of the Eparchy Santa María del Patrocinio en Buenos Aires on April 24, 1978 its first bishop.

Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation on December 12, 1997.
