Andrea Delai (* around 1648 in Scaria?; † after 1698 in Bozen ) was an Italian builder and architect of the Baroque period who lived in Bozen and worked in South Tyrol .

Life

Andrea Delai belonged to an extensive family of builders, masons, painters and plasterers who came from Scaria , a place in Val d'Intelvi in Lombardy (originally d'Allio). It dominated church building from the middle of the 17th to the middle of the 18th century in South Tyrol .

Andrea Delai was the son of Giacomo Delai il Giovane, with whom he worked until 1661, and brother of Pietro Delai , with whom he also carried out some projects. His son was the builder Giuseppe Carlo Delai.

Delai, who lives in Bolzano, can be traced in the brotherhood book there between 1657 and 1658 or 1661 and 1708. From 1680 to 1708 he held the office of first brother master. He received citizenship in Bolzano in 1667.

Works

Many church buildings in South Tyrol were carried out jointly by several members of the Delai family; some are only ascribed to him on the basis of stylistic similarities.
