Andrea Vital

Andrea Vital (born September 11, 1855 in Pontresina , † October 13, 1943 in Ftan , reformed , entitled to residency in Sent and Ftan) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

Life

Andrea Vital, scion of a family from Sent, was born on September 11, 1855 in Pontresina as the son of pastor Nicola Vital (* 1823, † 1882) and Barbara Lina, born Corradini (* 1833, † 1907). He was the second of nine children. Vital first attended the village school in Ftan , then the Institut a Porta, before graduating from the canton school in Chur. He then completed a law degree at the Universities of Strasbourg , Leipzig , Munich and Zurich . From 1878 Andrea Vital worked as a lawyer in Ftan.

Andrea Vital, father of the artist Edgar Vital (1883–1970), was married to Catharina (* 1862, † 1938), the daughter of the Copenhagen cafetier Stephan a Porta. He died in Ftan on October 13, 1943 at the age of 88.

Political career

Andrea Vital, a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, held the office of district and district court president at the beginning of his political career in Ftan. At the cantonal level, he represented his region from 1879 to 1895 and from 1917 to 1923 in the Grisons Grand Council , which he chaired in 1892 as professional president. In 1894 he was elected to the Graubünden government council , to which he belonged until 1902 and which he chaired in 1895 and 1900. As the first head of the education department, he promoted Romansh lessons in particular . After the parliamentary elections in 1899, he was a prominent representative of the Romansh minority in the National Council until 1919 .

Andrea Vital played a key role in the Graubünden constitution revision of 1894 and the water law bills, 1906 at the cantonal level, and 1916 at the federal level. He also served as President of the Societad Retorumantscha from 1897 to 1925.
