Andreas Conrad

Andreas Conrad (born around 1959 in Magdeburg ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Conrad, who grew up in Dresden and was a member of the Kreuzchor , studied singing with Marianne Fischer-Kupfer at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden. After three years in the opera studio of the Dresden State Opera , he was engaged at the Komische Oper Berlin in 1984, with which he remained connected until 2007. Here he embodied all the important roles in the game and character field and was appointed Berliner Kammersänger in 1998 . At the same time, Andreas Conrad made guest appearances at major opera houses such as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, in Nice, Dresden, Buenos Aires, Madrid, Barcelona and at KlangBogen Wien , where he appeared on stage with Plácido Domingo in Menotti's Goya . In 1997 he made his debut as Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Salzburg Festival, and in 1999 he could also be seen and heard here as Monostatos in the Magic Flute .

At the Vienna Festival in 2007 he sang Tscherewin in Janáček's From a House of the Dead . This production by Patrice Chéreau was finally shown in Amsterdam, Aix-en-Provence, at the New York Metropolitan Opera and at La Scala in Milan . He made his debut as a helmsman in 2008 at the Washington National Opera , where he returned in 2009 as a mime in Siegfried . In 2009 he played Aron in Schönberg's Moses und Aron at the RuhrTriennale . In 2011 he sang Herod in Strauss' Salome for the first time at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo . At the Opéra National de Paris he took on Vašeki in the Bartered Bride , followed by Edmund in Aribert Reimann's Lear in 2016. In 2015 he sang Herod in Salome at the Vienna State Opera and made his debut as a mime in Rheingold and Siegfried at the Bayreuth Festival .

Andreas Conrad has worked under the direction of important conductors such as Pierre Boulez , Christoph von Dohnányi , Marc Minkowski , Seiji Ozawa , Kirill Petrenko , Christian Thielemann and Simone Young .
