Andreas Krag

Andreas Krag (also: Cragius; Kragius ; * 1553 in Ribe ; † June 8, 1600 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish mathematician , physicist and doctor .

Life

After the early death of his father, Krag first completed his training in his hometown. In 1569 he went to Copenhagen, where he worked as a teacher of the lower grades after further lessons. In 1580 he attended the University of Wittenberg , where he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy in 1582.

In Wittenberg he also devoted himself to medical studies, then attended the universities in Tübingen , Basel , Strasbourg , Geneva and Montpellier . In France he received his doctorate in medicine on August 1, 1585 . He then returned to Copenhagen, where he was a lecturer at the university . In 1587 he became a professor at the pedagogy department, in 1589 he took over the professorship for mathematics and in 1590 became professor for physics. In 1595/96 he was the rector of the university.

His studies dealt mainly with chemistry and pharmacy . In his attempts he damaged his health and died of complications from a breast disease. In literary terms he represented the anti-Aristotelian direction of Petrus Ramus .
