Andreas Ritter (born October 1681 in Lübeck ; † April 15, 1755 in Bergen on Rügen ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman, professor at the University of Greifswald and provost on Rügen.

Life

Andreas Ritter was a son of Lübeck's senior pastor and senior Georg Ritter . The mayor Johann Ritter and the councilor Gerhard Ritter were uncles of his. He attended the Katharineum in Lübeck and studied from 1699 at the University of Leipzig , where he graduated on January 27, 1701 with a master's degree. In 1704, attracted by the reputation of Johann Friedrich Mayer , he went to the University of Greifswald . On March 1, 1705, he was appointed adjunct of the Philosophical Faculty and thus received the right to hold lectures. He read about René Descartes and Platonism , among other things . On September 14, 1706 he obtained a licentiate in theology.

In spring 1707 he was appointed pastor of the St. Marien Church (Bergen) and provost of the Rügen Synod . On May 2, 1707 he received his doctorate in theology and on the same day married Catharina († 1739), b. Bebel, a daughter of the general superintendent Balthasar Bebel from Wittenberg .
