Andreas Stökl

Andreas Stökl (born June 15, 1939 in Hamburg ; † May 2, 2006 in Omsk , Siberia ) was a German Protestant theologian and from 2004 to 2006 Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Georgia . He was a nephew of the Cologne Eastern European historian Günther Stökl and a doctor of theology.

Career

After studying theology, Andreas Stökl was pastor for 33 years in Hamburg , on Fehmarn ( North Elbian Evangelical Lutheran Church ) and in the Evangelical Church in Württemberg and officiated in Barmbek , Petersdorf on Fehmarn , Bitzfeld- Bretzfeld , Bergedorf- West and Neu-Allermöhe .

After his retirement, he wanted to take on pastoral duties in the growing church in the former Soviet Union . When Georgian Bishop Gert Hummel suddenly died in March 2004 , he was elected Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Georgia , based in Tbilisi.

He was supposed to be able to hold this office for less than two years: on May 2, 2006, he suddenly died of a heart attack in Omsk during a meeting of the bishops' council .

The synod of the ELKG elected the Hanoverian pastor Johannes Launhardt as his successor .
